The Puppet Animation Festival, now the UK’s oldest and largest performing arts event for children, young people and their families, will return to venues across East Lothian this spring, bringing eight puppet theatre companies and two puppet workshops.
Performances will take place in local community venues in Musselburgh, Haddington, North Berwick, Longniddry and Dunbar this Spring.
In Musselburgh, will host Animated Short Films: Family Treats, a selection of funny, delightful short animated films for children and their families and Storybox Theatre’s 3 Pigs.
In Haddington, Faux Theatre presents Celeste’s Circus, for babies and young children, a show for wee ones to experience the magic of the big top and with one of England’s best known companies, Lempen Puppet Theatre Company presents Little Frankenstein, a gentle horror for little horrors. North Berwick plays host to Pitschi, The Kitten With Dreams, adapted from Hans Fischer’s award-winning picture book and created by festival newcomers, Komedia, a production full of humour, song and adventure.
In Longniddry, Over The Top Puppet Company’s Willie The Wicked Wolf, is an outrageous but loveable rogue who plans to eat Granny and Red Riding Hood but fails miserably because of his unreliable motorbike.
Dunbar will be welcoming Puppet Lab’s brand new show, Twitawoo, which brings to life a host of funny and mischievous Scottish woodland creatures to share their adventures and Eco Drama presents The Worm: An Underground Adventure, a story about a family of friendly, musical worms and their colourful miniature world.
This year the Festival sees a first with puppet making workshops that will take place in Haddington. Magical Miniature Marvels with Angus Arts use a mix of materials and methods to make a miniature theatre and Puppets! Puppets! Puppets! , with Puppet-Stew, children can make their very own rod puppet to take home with the prospect of imaginative play lying ahead.
The Puppet Animation Festival runs 28 March – 18 April.
