WOMEX is delighted to announce the start of our call for Showcase, Conference and Film proposals for WOMEX 14, taking place in Santiago de Compostela, Galicia, Spain from Wednesday, 22 October until Sunday, 26 October.
WOMEX is now accepting proposals for the WOMEX 14 Showcase Festival and welcomes submissions from everyone, from new faces on the scene toseasoned professionals. The selected acts will perform for an audienceof key players from the global music industry, including concert and festival bookers, tour promoters and venues (around 800 attended WOMEX13), offering musical acts a huge launching pad for the next – international – phase of their careers.

Records had this to say about showcasing at WOMEX 13:
« WOMEX was an amazing networking experience, as well as Showcase
experience. The event allowed us to meet contacts from around the
world, and present our project to the type of music industry people we
really needed to meet. »
The Showcase Festival (and Conference) selection is made each year by
a group of seven Jury members – the famous 7 Samurai, cherry-picked
especially from within the international music community. In 2013,
WOMEX received over 850 artist proposals for around 40 slots.
The deadline for all showcase proposals is Friday, 18 April 2014 (just
before the Easter weekend). Please note, this is a public holiday in
WOMEX’s home country, Germany. Submissions should be sent early to

+++ Calling all potential conference speakers & mentors…
Whether a prominent talking head or a keen observer with a raft of
experience, WOMEX is seeking proposals from representatives across the
musical spectrum who wish to present their vision, map out an idea or
lay the foundation for moving the industry forward.
Proposals which examine Spain’s varied musical tracks – from the
internationally heralded flamenco to the celtic-influenced folk from
WOMEX’s host region Galicia, and from música mestiza to música
electrónica (to name just a few)- and how these diverse scenes and
their respective business infrastructure evolve in the 21st century
are particularly encouraged.
The two other focal points of the WOMEX Conference will be the ins and
outs of global club music, and synergies between jazz & world. WOMEX
is looking forward to hearing from the luminaries of each field.
Experts and industry greats are also called upon to share their
knowledge on all manner of key areas such as live production &
touring, label & publishing, PR, new tools & technologies with WOMEX
delegates via the One-to-One or Roundtable Mentoring Sessions.
The 2013 Conference saw more than 80 speakers and mentors from 25
countries convene over 20 Conferences plus Mentoring Sessions. The
Conference programme is compiled in consultation with the WOMEX Jury.

+++ Calling all music filmmakers…
Filmmakers with a knack for digging out the stories behind some of the
world’s most intriguing musicians and musical movements are invited to
show their work at the IMZ Film Screenings at WOMEX – the top platform
for global sounds in audio-visual media. The IMZ Film Screenings show
outstanding recent documentaries centred on music and/or musicians
from all around the world.
The film proposals are independently juried by WOMEX’s long-time
partner IMZ – International Music + Media Centre in Vienna, which
brings 50 years of experience to the selection process.
Last year, 17 films from 17 countries were screened at WOMEX 13.
The films from the screening selection can also become part of the
World Music Films On Tour programme, a non-profit distribution
project aimed at bringing musical diversity in film to a wider public.

ATLANTIC CONNECTIONS STAGE: A WINDOW TO IBERO-AMERICAN MUSIC
WOMEX 14’s ‘local stage’ in Santiago de Compostela, Galicia, Spain,
this year will be brought to life under the banner
‘Atlantic Connections’ and will highlight some of the most of-the-hour
Ibero-American musical acts, reflecting the traces Galician culture
and language have through the entire Iberian Peninsula and all Latin
America.
Artists from these regions, who submit a bid to the WOMEX Showcase
Festival, will have an additional chance to secure a valuable showcase
slot on the Atlantic Connections stage. There is no separate
application process. Artists from these Atlantic regions not selected
for showcase by the WOMEX Jury, will automatically be eligible for
consideration for the Atlantic Connections stage, with the selection
being made by a panel of specially-appointed music experts. The chosen
acts will then be offered a showcase spot at WOMEX 14.

Six artists from across the globe will give spectators a little taste
of what’s in store at WOMEX 14 later this year:

Since its first edition in 1994, WOMEX has been roaming all across
Europe from Berlin (1994), via Brussels (1995), Marseille (1997),
Stockholm (1998), Berlin (1999 + 2000), Rotterdam (2001), Essen
(2002 + 2004), Newcastle (2005), Sevilla (2003 + 2006-2008),
Copenhagen (2009-2011), Thessaloniki (2012) to Cardiff (2013).
In 2014, WOMEX will be moving to Santiago de Compostela in Galicia,
Spain.
